2011 Domaine de Vannieres Bandol Rouge PP 91点

A big, ripe and textured effort that’s a blend of over 90% Mourvedre, aged 20-24 months in wood, Chateau Vannieres’ 2011 Bandol, gives up big, extroverted, yet subtly volatile aromas of violets, plum, licorice and hints of chocolate on the nose. Not holding much back on the palate either, with a medium to full-bodied, voluptuous and hedonistic profile, it has low acidity, solid underlying structure, and is one serious mouthful of a wine. The volatile character will be something to watch, yet I love the overall texture and richness. It should continue to drink nicely for another decade or more. (2014-02-27)

2005 Domaine de Vannieres Bandol Rouge Domaine de Vannieres PP 91点

A bright ruby hue. A very pure nose of black cherries, a touch of coconut and blueberries and violets. Good definition. The palate is beautifully balanced with intense black fruits and a plush, velutinous texture with a touch of dark chocolate on the mid-palate. Modern in style, the opposite of say Pradeaux, but compelling and without any signs of under ripeness that plague other 2005’s. Excellent. Drinking 2012-2020. (2007-06-29)

2004 Domaine de Vannieres Bandol Rouge PP 92点

A deep garnet color. A very polished nose with cassis and blackberry: very opulent and velvety smooth with immense purity. The palate is full-bodied, very focused with great purity, very modern in style and quite feminine in style. Sensuous and silky, this is Burgundy meets Bandol with filigree tannins on the glycerine-rich finish. Superb, but a definitely long-term proposition. Tasted May 2007.(2007-08-31)

2013 Domaine de Vannieres Bandol Rose PP 91点

One of the Roses of the vintage is the 2013 Bandol Rose from Domaine de Vannieres. Beautifully perfumed, with lots of rose petal, minerality, orange blossom and citrus, this beauty hits the palate with medium-bodied depth and richness, perfectly integrated acidity and a great finish. Buy this by the case and drink bottles over the coming year. (2016-06-30)
